The President of Practical Folly is Alex Faux, a skilful experienced artisan. Alex is the driving force responsible for bringing our wonderful line of Playhouses from the design stage to reality. Launched in the spring of 2001, Practical Folly Playhouses is a young company, but we draw on a wealth of experience with creative and unusual construction projects.
Alex has been responsible for the creation of many custom designed garden features and children's play structures for more than twenty years. He has worked all around the world on a diverse multitude of construction projects. In Sydney he constructed a complete audiovisual editing booth for the Australian Broadcasting Company. He built teak outdoor furniture and a series of bamboo huts for a beach resort in Langkawai, Malaysia. While in London, England he worked in set construction for the Disney film "Danny, Champion of the World".
Closer to home he has been responsible for a multitude of residential renovation and new construction projects as well as the interior millwork for a number of commercial projects. In addition to being responsible for the set construction of two independent films in Toronto, Alex worked in the Scenic Construction department at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake Canada building sets for their live stage productions for several seasons. He continues to work on a wide variety of residential, commercial and theatrical projects around the Niagara Region.
To sum it all up, Alex brings a tremendous amount of creative energy and construction experience to Practical Folly. He finds that this variety of work inspires him to continue to work on innovative, unusual projects. His unique creative approach benefits our beautiful whimsical structures.
The marketing, website design and maintenance, along with much of the administration of Practical Folly is the responsibility of Joan Faux, Alex's wife. Joan has worked as a teacher, a chemist and a quality assurance auditor. Practical Folly makes good use of her ability to multi-task and focus on details without losing sight of the objectives.
Alex and Joan have two young sons who keep them very busy in the off hours.
"Our sons definitely are our pride and joy, and having them always ensures that we consider every aspect of our structures from a child's perspective."
